THE FUTURE OF CONNECTIVITY
Our first business computers were connected in 1969 using the Network Control Protocol (NCP) which provided the transport layer of the protocol stack running on host computers. In 1971 the network known as Advanced Research Project Agency Network (ARPANET) was declared fully operational allowing the global exchange of digital information.
Today's business computers are interconnected via on-premise servers. A server is a type of computer or device that allows for the transformation of data. A server delivers the information that your computer (the client) requests. An on-premise server is a physical, on-site server that a company must manage and maintain individually.
Tomorrow's business computers don't need on-premise servers. A cloud-based server is a virtual server hosted through cloud computing that resides at another site in a massive data center managed and maintained by a third-party. This provides the opportunity for unlimited and instant scalability while transferring CAPEX costs to OPEX costs.
